Audi 100 boot (trunk) lid lock won't open - how do I get into it ?

Hmmm.  That's a tough one.  Have you tried applying downward force on the
lid?  Not enough to dent it, but just steady pressure.  It MAY relieve some
of the pressure on the lock, and permit the stubborn boot to open...

Any ideas please, Listers,  about how to open the lid when the key won't
operate the locking latch ? - the boot/trunk is full of alloy wheels and
the lid shouldn't have been shut on them - may be straining the lock
mechanism perhaps ?

I just hope there is another way short of brute force and butchery
