Don't know much about the BMW, but the 1984 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3-16V will
DRAIN your wallet, fast!  The 16 valve motor is high performance 4-cylinder,
which means it was run hard 'n put away wet!!  MANY problems with the early
201 series. (That's the 190 MB) Climate control system, A/C compressor,
window lifts, struts AND lower ball joints, exhaust system, and we haven't
talked about the motor yet!!  BTW, 1984 was the first year for the 201 into
the USA, and we all know the problems with first year German cars.  There
was a bumper sticker some years ago which read:"Friends don't let friends
own a 190".  IMHO, get a beater for a couple of bucks and spruce up your
1990 Audi 20V.
