<< finally got my new (to me) alloys on my cgt, theyre like golf gti cross
spoke jobbies (bbs style?). 7*15" i wanted large tyres (225/45 15) but
couldnt get any cheap enough, got a set of part worn 205/50 15 for 100 quid,
fitted and balanced. good job, these wheels had a larger offset and just
fit, i think the rear left maybe just scrubbing. the car looks great,
unfortunately the front looks slightly high but the rear is perfect. i
need to get a pair of coils (uprated with 30-40mm drop) for the front. has
anybody got any idea of the specification (ie size, rating) or would i just
have to buy a set of 4??

ps is cutting a good idea? (on a budget)

Hey ya.
I cut the springs on my old Coupe GT - it's still going, and it works,
although it's not the best way to do things, unless you never intend on
having money. The best way to do it is with coilovers, which I did on my
current GT (after installing Abt springs first - also a very good, but also
pricey solution.). I don't think that you'll find many springs still
available - you might be able to source some H&R's (although NLA, as far as I
know) or some Abt springs (I think also NLA, but I got some.) There are
plenty of shops that offer them in europe - perhaps Demon Tweaks or
Ingolstadt Garage might be able to source something. After having four
different suspension setups in my GT, I'd go with the Abt springs if I could
ever find them again and Bilstein shocks if the car was a road car (which
mine is now not, basically....). Hope this helps, any other GT questions
feel free to ask me - I've probably done it once, more than likely twice.
And if I haven't, than Huw has doen it 3 or 4 times. Seriously. We're a sad
lot.
Later!
Carter
