    I had a similar problem with my 80.  The ball joint bolts get loose from
vibration, especially if you have a stiffer suspension than stock.  Go down
there with your 17mm ratchet and crank on all four bolts, 2 per side.  I
think that should solve it.  I got the noise when I backed up at a sharp
angle at first, then eventually it happened everytime I accelerated and
stopped.

    You may also have blown the front shocks, look for black oil everywhere
on top of the struts, if there is lots of oil then you blew the shock.  Also
if you find that those ball joints were the cause of the noise then you
probably need an alignment, since the ball joints will slide in and out when
those bolts aren't very tight, Bentley says 30ft/lbs. I think, I do 65-70.
