Blown reverse in a 1987 5kcstq

I managed to blow out reverse in my 1987 5kcstq last night. Decided
to roll down the drive way and start the engine with the clutch. Bad
idea. Huge pop, engine starts, grinding noise in reverse, but no go.
Seems like there are some teeth left on reverse because sometimes
it'll catch and pull in reverse for a few inches. So, hopefully the
case isn't broken.

So, ideas? Is it likely cheaper to get a junkyard unit, or is this a
feasable repair for a semi-pro mechanic? Do you need all sorts of
gauges and fixtures to get this unit back together correctly or not?
The transmission is otherwise perfect. Shifts perfectly, and is quiet.
