I'd rather hope that the g'vnor on those beasts was set to above 105. The
C&D report on the V-8 says it's top speed is 142. As for the driver, he
obviously didn't have the skills to work with his car. But he sure did
try.

As to RR's comments,

As for domestics, I rather think FoMoCo's domestic offerings are closest
to their European counterparts, and they are FAR from junk. Be aware,
Ford of Euro are rather entry level cars, so they do not compare directly
with up market Audi's. As for VW's, we ONLY see upmarket VW's, there are
plenty of lower line models of both VAG lines that some of us would
probably not consider car's we'd like to drive.

As for the Japanese imports, as an experienced SCCA Solo2 racer in a
Stock Class GTi, at Regional and Divisional competition, I've
encountered many a well driven, well prepared STOCK class (the rules on
mods are restrictive and complete in the SCCA, the enforcement usually
quite complete) Honda, Acura, Mazda and Toyota and they are very much the
equal or superior to my old A2 German iron. Likewise, though I find the
durability of D-C Neons somewhat questionable, they are formidable
competitors in class, especially on a level playing field such as in SCCA
competition.

So, although the individual non-VAG or european product (or owner) may
not live up to your expectations, it is truely unjust to classify all
non-germanic iron as junk.

And, BTW, when I had my 4KQ (similar performance to RR's CGT's) I was
matched or thumped by Ford Taurus' (Tauri?) at the stoplight GP. The 4KQ
was a GREAT car, mind you, a much better balanced (out of the box) car
than my 200Q, it had handling, braking and a great acceleration FEEL that
was beautifully balanced. Mind you, the 4KQ was hardly fast, but it sure
was fun. Reality says, a current autobox Toyota Corolla would outdrag a
properly running stock 4KQ. It's not my kind of car, but it could do it.

Bottom line, have tolerance for others, what satisfies one doesn't have
to satisfy all.
