Gauge Pods?

With due respect,
I Beg to differ. Audi's concept in the 200 was to reflect
sound of the windshield for a more disperse soundfield. However
in the process they destoryed imaging and depth of field.
The factory locations are simply to close the ears making the
drivers speaker 1/2 the distance that the passengers speaker is.
Not good. THe 5ktq on the other hand had door pod seperates.
Pretty decent location and with ADS 320i's, two ADS amps (PH 15,
and PQ 12, both PowerPlates) running them (which in my opinion
(remember everyone, audio is VERY subjective) are far superior
to anything in Rockfords range. ANyhow, this setup sounded
Excellent in all respects. I have NEVER been able to get a dash
mounted setup to sound this good. As I mentioned, soundstage
may be improved cheaply by reflecting sound (sounds like
something BOSE and their 70's technology would say) but depth of
field and imaging suffered compared to proper setup.
Oh, I forgot to mention, while the 5ktq factory locations
aren't BAD the better option (and expensive one) is custom pods
in the foot wells firing toward the passengers. This places the
drivers as far away from the ears as possible.
But I'm not here to battle it out about which setup is better.
As I mentioned earlier, sound is very subjective and different
people look for different things. To a Rapper guy who likes
nothign but bass my system may not sound all that good (I COULD
turn up the 10" I guess, which is also a Solo Baric so we agree
on one thing :-) But to say that anyone who says not to use
the stock location isn't qualified is ludicrous. That comes
from some of the most qualified people I know as well as one
person who probably has the best ear of anyone I"ve met and is
well regarded for his ability to set up systems. ANd they all
Agree.
So, that said, there is Nothing wrong with movign to a
different locations. The 200 door pods from the Bose system
work well for a 5.25" and tweeter seperates install. I have my
gauge mounted to where my speaker grill used to be and will do
the same to my next car. works well and definately improves
imaging and depth of field.
At least thats MY opinion. :-) If you like dash speakers,
good for you. Its easier that way.
