No more oil consumption

Fred,

I hear you! Oil consumption sucks. Sounds like your S4 uses the equivalent
of a quart every 900 to 1000 miles. Not exactly excessive, but definately
annoying. I've had six Audi I5's, and the CQ is the first burner I've had.
Ironically, it's the lowest mileage of any I've had. My first quattro ('84
4k) had 220-250,000mi on the clock when I sold it, and burned virtually none
(estimated mileage, we all know how the odometers are on those things).

My current '87 5ktqa has 150,000mi and burns none between changes. I have a
'91 200q 20v that has 180,000mi, and will go through one qt between 3000
mile changes. I'd expect a 20v to burn a little more than a 10v due to the
extra valve guide area, but the CQ is over the edge. If I were to go to the
trouble and expence to replace the valve guide seals only to find out it's a
problem is with the rings, I'd really be torqued!

What with the poor dealer support, outrageous parts prices, the niggling
little recuring problems these beasts have, I sometimes wonder why we
bother. But then, what else would you want to drive when it snows?

Good luck, and keep feeding them all the oil they want, I guess. Sure wish
a new oxygen sensor would cure it!

JC
