informal POLL (Was:No more oil consumption)

I've been reading this thread, and there have been so many "me
toos" reporting in excess of 1 qt. every 1000 mi., that I got to
wondering... whose of you who have this problem and have had your
cars since new, when did you do your first oil change?

Back around '98 there was a thread discussing the wisdom of
changing out the initial factory fill at 3000 mi. instead of at
the factory specified 5000 mi., or even 7500 (can't recall).
Some said, the factory uses special oil and if you change it
early, the rings won't seat properly, leading to excessive oil
consumption later on. Others said, there's nothing special about
the initial fill and you should change it at 3000 mi, regardless
of the factory recommendation.

I ain't gonna say which advice I chose to follow, I don't want to
bias the result of this informal poll:

If you are the original owner of your car

a) how many miles are on it now?

b) did you replace the initial fill at the factory specified
mileage, or did you do it early (3000 mi.)?

c) does your car now use at least, oh, 1/2 qt. every 1000 mi.?

(ps. don't tell ME, tell the LIST!)
