shocks/springs for 85cq

Listers,

I have recently swapped out the shocks that came with my CQ for some (almost
new) KYB shocks that were on my CGT...
I notice that the car now seems to ride about an inch too high at the front
(only did the front shocks)...
I assume (dangerous I know!) that this is due to a higher gas preload...
I guess I have to get special springs to drop it back to the original level

Does anyone have recommendations on other models' springs that may suit, or
am I stuck with custom springs.
I have heard mention of having springs re-rated, through heat treatment at a
spring manufacturer, anyone have any experiences with this?
