This will probably be flame bait, as someone is bound
to tell me I am wrong:
'80s vintage cars with vacuum boost PB took Dexron ATF
in the PS fluid jug. I have an '86 Golf like this.
Cars with hydraulic PB boost (ie the bomb) need some
variety of Green Gold (a/k/a Goo2000).
90's vintage cars took Goo2000 regardless of brake
boost technology...to me, Audi/VW just standardized to
that stuff. I have a '91 Jetta (vacuum PB boost) that
uses the Goo.
I once asked a Genuine Audi/VW tech I trust about this
stuff (why Goo2000?). His response was that once Audi
started using the hydraulic boost for the brakes, ATF
was deemed to be unable to work at those extremely
high pressures like you find in the bomb. ATF is
thinner, and would leak out faster from those very
high pressure fittings...or would deteriorate from the
heat.
ok flame away...and Steve we want BOTH hoses for the weekend.
