VW intermittent wiper relay

I'm a little surprized at this thread as I have an 85 5kcs and it is
equipped with an intermittent wiper function, Does that mean my PO put
it there, and it's not standard equipment?
Or
Is this a special thing, such as dialable delay speed?
(which ofcourse would indeed be nice)
