Steering/suspension clunk

I have a strange clunking in the front of my 200TQ. When I drive on
uneven road, I really get a clunking noise from the lower front of the
car. The tie rods and shock mounts are new and the ball joints have no
play. If I turn the steering wheel from side to side, I can hear the
clunk. Adjusting the rack preload doesn't help at all. How do I check
the subframe bushings? I suspect that the steering rack itself makes
the noise, but I'm not sure. Subframe bushings shouldn't go that bad
with only 90k miles?
