I too drove a Ghia, it was my second car, after the MGA. No status then but a
lot more now it seems. I was the only kid on the block that had one. But no
one, especially the girls, were impressed at the time. They were more
impressed with Corvettes and 911's, but it was the only car I could afford. I
was 19 and a new 911 or Vette was out of my reach (there's only so much one
could do misappropriating the money my parents gave me for tuition) so I had
to settle for this clapped out funny sounding Ghia.
I no longer have it, but I guess that it's now a collectors item and turns
heads, gets invitations to prestigious events, etc., all the time.
So there!!!

Oh, by the way, did I mention that it was a Ghia bodied ex-Mexican Road Race
Ferrari 340 America that was driven by Jack and Ernie McAfee (no relation) in
53 or 4?
A 4.1, RHD, Lampredi engined Ferrari to drive on the street. Yup, pretty much
the ideal car for an immature 19 year old to have. A 427/425 Vette would have
been more practical. I then graduated to a far more useful car, a Cooper
Monaco, and then to the ultimate in practicability, an Elva-Porsche with the
4 cam flat fan engine. It's been downhill ever since.
But it's been fun, that's for sure.
