the oil loss is not that bad for a v6, not as far as
hurting it, mines been as much as 2 1/2 low. i did
have one that did need an oil pump, the light would
come on from time to time, the only time it sounded
like it didnt have oil presssure was cold start up. i
told them i thought it needed a pump and to take it to
dealer ( i dont do that kind of stuff ) so they did,
dealer said it was fine, within 6 months, it popped
the motor, dealer bought them a used one an installed
for free !!

black smoke- that would not be related to low oil or
no oil pressure, that may be a big vaccume leak, maybe
the sound you were hearing ????

does the car sound normal when you turn it over ??? or
does it sound like its skipping ??? if it is skipping,
you may be talking timing belt, pull the covers and
see. turn the crank till the little slit is lined up
with the plastic cover mark, pull the cam covers and
see if the cams are straight ( both the holes in the
cam plate will be at 9 and 3 o'clock ) make sure both
the little holes or both big holes are faceing each
other.

if they are step 2 : if the car skipps while starting,
it more than likely flooded its self too, so pull all
the plugs and give each cylinder 2 squirts of oil down
in the holes, put the plugs in and hope for the best.

check the main air box hose for tightness and cracks,
these v6 motors are not prone to starting problems
like that, unless you have a freeky one !!!!
good luck and let me know !!!
