Need help w/ QSW diff's....

Dave, couple of points here...

1) The tranny that is in the Syncro wagons is the same that is in the Audi
4kq, if I recall correctly. This means that it is ALWAYS in AWD 'mode' there
is no FWD/RWD selection. The differential actuators are soley for the
purpose of LOCKING the differentials, not transfering power to or from.

2) pulling the diff lock towards the engine will engage the center diff lock
(again, if it is setup the same as a 4kq, and I believe it is). This will
force the front and rear sets of wheels to turn at the same speed, often
causes tire noise on tight paved corners....

Why yours is making noise with the diff unlocked I have no idea. Are you
sure that you had to pull the rod towards the engine?? It'd make a lot more
sense if instead the diff was locked the whole time while you were driving
it, then you had to cut the ziptie and unlock the diff, and upon putting it
in gear discovered that you had a shot front diff as opposed to the CV
joint, in which case that would really suck :(.

Just my .0002 cents
