I'm not sure who was asking about rebuilding, but I rebuilt my turbo
myself. It's really not that bad...the hard part is getting it off the car.
Then you just need a kit [make sure you get the right one], and you can
swap the parts in an hour or so. Do it on a bench or someplace you won't
lose parts or get anything dirty. The kit cost under $100 from Bramall
turbo in Canada. Basically you just need to change the bearings, seals, and
some hardware. Also inspect and clean out the oil passageways for any
carbon buildup. I had a decent amount in mine, but the oil passageways are
big enough, so a cheap screwdriver and some elbow did the trick. Make sure
you torque the compressor nut lightly. The early K26's had a necked shaft
near the threads, so I ended up snapping mine and having to hunt for a new
turbine. But I got it all together and had it running fine for at least 10k
miles, before my heater hose blew which blew the head gasket. It was nice
hearing that turbo whistle after driving w/ a locked turbo for so long. You
can also get kits from turbo city in Cali. here are the sites:

good luck.
