Hi Kneale;
Your initial thought was correct - there are fasteners through the centre of
the spacers, but they are not shown on the drawing. They fasten the chrome
trim to the body. On the 5k they were studs welded to the body metal and on
the 200 they are screws into nylon snap blocks mounted in square holes in
the body metal. The force from the fastener hastens the demise of the paint
under the spacer - the engineers must have had an off day.
