The explanation I've read (as opposed to understood) is that the relay that
triggers the warning reads the power draw DIFFERENCE when a bulb is out
and signals based on that difference. I think Audi wires both sides
separately so that the warning system can work. If you power one side from
a relayed source on the other side, the warning system cannot function as
designed.
