Audi 4kQ- hardstart

Ah!  You are of course correct.  That circuit does lead to the ECU,
but as an input to the ECU rather than an output from it.

Aside from a faulty starter, it's possible that the connection is just
corroded or broken, since the location of the starter is close to
the heat of the exhaust...
