Hey all - in the process of buying a car with a crunchy 2nd gear;
86 5kcsq; I have a spare transmission in my 87 5kcsqa, and while
the current owner (longtime Audi mechanic) does not seem to think
that driving the 86s crunchy second is bad, I'm planning on
replacing the transmission.
The MC motor in the 87 is coming out, as it is getting put into
an 83tqc, so the tranny will be easy to get out of the wagon. I'm
wondering how much of a PITA tranny R&R is in a garage with a
good array of jackstands, creepers and floorjacks is - I have
access to lifts, which would undeniably make the job easier -
the question is how much. For example. R&R a Rabbit transmission
on the floor is easy enough that dragging everything to the
shop to do it is hardly worth it. I fully expect the 5k tranny
job to be a lot harder, but not sure if it is SO much harder on
the floor vs lift makes organizing a day at the shop worthwhile.
Anyone done it(clutch) on a 44 in their garage?
TIA!
