Check the vacuum line to the diaphram that has a linkage to the throttle
cable cam by the throttle body. Better yet, replace it.

As for waxes, I use Nu-Finish, not because it helps the car look nice (I
guess it helps, I don't see it), but because it seems to protect for a
year or so with a car parked outside, though I do cover it at night
because of the overhanging trees (and birds).
