rubber hoses misery

In some respects, super fine pinhole leaks from some of the components
relieve some pressure on others in a pressurized system. If you replace
one part, you might have added enough pressure back on the system to make
others go "pop"! Replace as much as possible, or you might really have
this scenario. I first noticed this on my GTi, 5 years into it's life.
Had the upper hose go, replaced it. Got it home. Next morning, walked out
to the garage to find lots of blue liquid on the floor, the lower hose
went. Took the 4KQ to work, picked up a bunch of hoses, and replaced the
remaining hoses the next evening. When the 200's radiator leak became
obvious enough to be noticed (gee, it was only 12 years and 170K miles
old!) I also replaced all of the hoses. Why risk getting stranded or
warping a head (or in the case of the 200, warping the head AND coking
the turbo, since it would be a rapid shut down with no auxiliary cooling
of the turbo?).
