I Feel the Earth Move Under My Feet...

Hello all,

My 88 5ksq has developed a pronounced shifting "clunk" directly beneath the
floor under the clutch/gas pedal area. The noise is most noticeable when
shifting into second gear...and then goes away.  The clutch is catching a
little higher than normal lately and I scratching my head on the noise/clutch
combo.  I'm thinkin' clutch slave bleeding?, pressure plate? (gasp). Any
BTDT's or diagnostic recommendations? As usual TIA.
