I had the same experience with my '87 5kTQ - had to baby it when
accelerating, otherwise a thumping/growl sound came from the footwell -
replaced the transmission mounts last weekend - the rt. side mount (hidden
by the heat shield) had completely detached from the steel bracket, allowing
the tranny to rotate and hit the floor pan.
