Regarding M-B and Classic cars -
I read in one magazine that Merc will actually take old Benzes and restore
them using M-B facilities/technicians/info/parts. Of course, it's not going
to be free, but it shows how they value the older cars (and their owners).
Ti, I can sympathize with you about the "Classicization" of your 4k - my 5k
is in the same boat, and I now have it insured with the same company as my
DKW - the result, $150 for an appraisal for the two cars (lasts 4 years),
and the insurance company charges $153 to insure both of them for a year -
no depreciation, comprehensive/collision, no mileage limit (just for use
only in connection with hobby/collector car activity). Please note -
Canadian Pesos!!
I took both cars out for a run on the weekend - drove the 5k down the
highway in the middle of a sunny day - nobody appeared to even give a second
glance at the car. However, drove the DKW in the dark/slight fog last night
up the road and back - had other drivers keeping pace/staring as the car
putted along. (maybe it was the car, or maybe the trailing plume of
two-stroke exhaust that caught their eye ;-D )
Cheers!
