The post was in reference to a V8Q, the V8Q has little/nothing in common
with the engine systems on other type 44's. The following observations
are valid for the V8Q:
> Oxygen sensor
Will not cause hard starting. Does causes surging, lousy mileage and
running rich among other things.
> Hall effect sensor on distributor (loose/dirty connector)
The V8Q will start right up with the hall effect sensor completely
disconnected, it will run and drive all day in this condition. The
Motronic unit goes to a preprogrammed default value in the presence of
no-signal or out of parameter signal.
> Vacuum lines & connectors (soften when hot)
Would be easy to check, as the V8Q has maybe 3 of them, but even when
disconnected, the Motronic unit doesn't seem to be too bothered with
false air on startup.
> Loose distributor
Two on the V8Q, mounted horizontally, would spew oil if loose long before
any other problems could occur.
> Distributor drive cam on crank ($!)
V8Q distributors are fed by the Camshafts. They fit into milled slots in
cams, no gears.
