Sure it would start at 6.5:1 CR. Some of the early air cooled VW engines u=
sed similary low CR, granted they only made like 28hp from 1200cc but certa=
ily would run. A lot of the pre-WW2 aircraft engines used compression ratio=
s of down to 5:1 to avoid detonation with the low octane fuel that was avai=
lable at the time.
With modern gasoline, there is probably little good reason to go with comp=
ression ratio below 8:1 on a street driven turbo engine, otherwize the unbo=
osted throttle response and cruising efficiency go way down.
