manifold studs VS bolts???

Hi listers!

As I'll soon be in the process of rebuilding, porting and polishing a few
friends' cylinder heads, I wanted to ask some of you for your opinions about
replacing the head's manifold studs with just bolts...
I mean using the highest available grade for the bolts...
Any opinions on this?
Also, could someone point me towards some instructions to build my own flow
bench? These are pretty rare in continental Europe (I'm not speaking of GB)
and I don't seem to find a manufacturer for these around here....plus the
cost is very important for me as I'm a student on a budget (I mean a limited
budget)
