How important is the gasket when replacing brake master cylinder?

Yeah, that was my thought too.  The first Audi MC I replaced, I was
surprised to find the recess the end of the booster forms full of
corrosion.  The weep hole at the bottom was plugged, and I presume the
inside of the recess sweats during climactic changes.
