Bad news.
Twelve spectators have been taken to hospital after a car crash halted the
Network Q Rally of Great Britain.
In foggy conditions the Ford Focus of two-time world champion Carlos Sainz
slid off the road into a spectator area about eight miles into the 11th
special stage in the Brechfa Forest in south Wales.
The casualties, including four children, were taken to Glangwili Hospital in
Carmarthen.
Three people, all adults, have serious injuries, but none are thought to be
life threatening.
Organisers scratched the 11th stage and cancelled the 12th, which was also
scheduled for the forest area.
BBC motorsport correspondent Jonathan Legard said the FIA, the sport's
governing body, is investigating the accident, and officials have obtained
video film from inside Sainz's car.
Sainz, who was in fourth place at the time, reached the end of the
13.53-mile stage but was visibly upset and withdrew from the rally.
