At the bottom corners of the door, there are two large (13mm head?) bolts.
These bolt the inner part of the door (which contains the window, winder,
inside handle etc.) to the outer part of the door (which contains the
hinges, lock outer handle etc.). When the door is cosed, there should be no
gap between the top of the door and the body of the car. If there is a gap,
shims (wide fork-like, 1/16" thick) are inserted or removed between the
inner part and outer part of the door. These shims are fork like so that
they fit around the bolts mentioned earlier. I'm surprised Bentley doesn't
mention them - check again.
They probably fell out when the previous owner dismantled the door.
