I thought the price for a new breather tube was ridiculous also . . so I
made my own.
I'm sending you in private email the pix detailing the breather tube made
from odds and ends.
The parts are:
Plumbing Store:
90 deg copper elbow adapter - 1 1/8" ID to 3/4" ID
reducer copper - 3/4" OD to .72" OD
Truck Parts Store:
Silicon radiator hose - 1 1/8" ID X 3" long
Audi part:
Breather hose - 035-103-221F - - cut to 8"
1. Solder the copper elbow to reducer . . . 3/4" OD to 3/4" ID
2. Attach radiator 1 1/8" hose to elbow 1 1/8" end with hose clamp.
3. Attach audi breather hose to .72" reducer end with hose clamp.
The above works for my 90 100q.
Cost?
The Silcone radiator hose is $1 per inch.
The copper fittings are about $2 ea
The audi hose I had laying around . . . I think its under $10 . . .you can
use something else.
If I had to do it over again, I would cut the audi hose in the center, and
put a 45 degree elbow in there to make a smoother curve without kinking the
hose.
Or, just sweat in copper tubing in place of the audi hose . . .. then you
only need about 3 or 4 inches of hose to connect to engine plumbing.
Vibration wont bother it as you have flexible hose connections at each end.
