5kt ignition saga continues

With some excellent advice form the list, I was able to remove the instrument 
cluster, which allowed me to install the new electrical portion of the 
switch. We were using it hanging below the dash, and it works no problem.
Now the switch works fine if worked while out of the column but will not hit 
the start position in the column. The mechanical shaft is not broken, and 
turns fine to the on position, and appears to go to the start position, but 
no contact.
I'm guessing I now have to replace the column lock mechanism?
