Hey folks,
Been reading and learning so much from this list I figured that I'd at least subscribe to it! I did very briefly when I first got my '85 4ksq, but had no time to read all these e mails that jammed my box. Life has awarded me some liberties that were not there last time, so I figured I'd go at it again.
I have a question considering the ever famous turbo transplants: What is the best bang for the buck as far as choice of motor for the upgrade? I see that the Ur-Q motor is pretty much a bolt-up compared to other turbo motors, but lacks the knock sensors of the later motors, as well as being VERY rare and EXPENSIVE. Would it behoove me to hunt down a Ur-Q motor for the sake of simplicity? (doubt it, but just curious). Reason I was asking is, I have the opportunity to buy an identical car to the one that I have for a GREAT price, only the motor caught fire due to a fuel line leak in the engine compartment. (Zermatt silver, quartz grey cloth) I figured that this would be the ideal recipient for a lovely turbo motor. I was looking to basically build "the car that Audi should have built" and the Ur-Q motor would be a perfect fit. I have heard horror stories to the effect of the cost of parts and scarcity of these beasts, and I am curious wether or not to even try such an endeavor!!
(Heck, I'll just have one of them there coupe quattro motors brought over from yonder in ol' europa! They got plenty of them over yonder!!!!)
