A4q fuel filter

Hey, what is this! I finish a PITA job and hear someone else has the same
problem the week after I deal with mine. Douglas, this job is an absolute
PITA! Bentley doesn't give you an interval because (according to an Audi
technician) it's a lifetime filter. Isn't that a hell of a note? You know,
why would Audi sell them so readily at $40 a pop if they are a lifetime
filter? Anyway, we ended up pulling the filter down, getting it out (while
kinking the fuel line) and cutting the strap after the filter was out.
Pulling the filter down was not fun to start with but can be done with a lot
of persuasion. After cutting the strap out, we found this thing you thought
was a hex key ended up being a 12 point. As far as the top of the filter,
there is a plastic hose that feeds up from the beneath the fuel tank with a
screwed fitting at the end (just like the other end of the filter). In
fact, if you take a look underneath the car, there is a fuel line that has a
small rubber piece of hose in line that runs up beside the tank. This is
the one that goes to that end of the filter. You can probably take that
rubber hose loose and get the rest of the hose out without kinking it.
Good luck! Email me if there's anything else I can help you out with in
this job.
I never thought a fuel filter would ever take it out of me!
