After investing way too much time and money into this project, my '86
4000tq is now for sale. Many parts are new or nearly new, and the
only serious mechanical issue is an exhaust manifold leak, due to either
a loose flange, broken stud, or even cracked manifold (though the
2-piece manifolds are not prone to this). I have not disassembled
anything yet to diagnose the problem.. Also, fender flares (modified
widened UrQ flares) were recently installed and a very poor paint job
applied in haste, so it needs paint and the flares need some finishing
work.
On the positive side, the car has:
- A recently installed 90Q front suspension, with 2-piece struts, S4
5-bolt hubs, large CV's and bearings, swaybar linked to uprights, etc.
- A reinforced rear subframe with custom swaybar.
- Recent new ball joints, control arm bushings (delrin), wheel bearings,
upper strut mounts (UrQ), etc all around, plus new subframe bushings
and all mounts about 20k miles ago.
- Recent new Bilstein sport shocks; with pre-existing ABT race springs.
- Sparco front strut bar, custom welded rear brace.
- 17x8" Stilauto wheels (tires need replacing)
- Front/rear UrQ flares and rockers. Flares were widened and and will
accomodate 235/40-17 tires with ~2" wider track front and rear (S4 hubs
w/5mm spacers in front, 5ktq hubs w/25mm spacers in rear, et35 wheels)
- Custom hood ducts/vents for radiator exit flow, exhaust-side engine
venting.
- Porsche 996 front calipers with S8 rotors and cooling ducts.
- Girling dual brake master cylinders with adjustable front/rear bias.
- Recent new transmission imported from Germany and fitted with custom
oil cooler and Tilton fluid pump.
- Recent new Centerforce clutch
- Momo steering wheel, full gauges (oil pressure, air/fuel mixture,
exhaust temp)
- The MC2 motor was rebuilt and installed about 20k miles ago, including
the head (w/Piper cam,port/polish,etc),
bottom-end, oil pan baffle, etc. It uses almost no oil (Amsoil 20W/50)
even when run hard on the track.
- Other engine items - K26 Sport turbo (rebuilt w/Porsche 944TS cold
side), 944 intercooler, large oil cooler, new injectors, new (dual)
fuel pumps, MF2 injector driver with 2 Motronic injectors installed
between intercooler and intake (tunable boost pressure threshold and
injector duty cycles), Profec B boost controller, Scorpion downpipe,
custom exhaust, etc.
- Many other new items at conversion time (20k miles) - radiator,
coolant afterrun pump, alternator, tierods, CV's, etc, etc.
The interior of the car has been pretty much stripped, though I still
have all of the parts. It currently has (reupholstered) stock seats,
so it really needs a racing seat and rollbar to be complete.
The car ran very reliably with 15-17psi boost up until the recent
exhaust manifold problem. It is very quick, with lots of torque and
could pull several car lengths on modified S4's on the short straights
at the local track. I ran the car on street tires up until very
recently, when the flares were installed to accomodate 235/40-17 track
tires. Even on narrow 215 section street tires, it posted faster lap
times than most Audi's with track tires.
I am not interested in parting the car out, but will only consider
offers for it whole. I also have many spare parts that go along with
the package. Email me if you're interested. Meanwhile, I will take some
pictures of it.
Car is located near Denver, CO.
Thanks,
Gary Kaklikian
