The tool required is an "adjustable reamer", the tollerance of the newly
reamed hole needs to be kept to spec.
Basically you would,
1. Install the valve guide in the head
2. Measure the valve stem diameter with a micrometer
adding the clearance called for in the specification.
( valve stem = .250" + clearance = .003" = .253" guide inside diam.)
3. Measure valve guide inside diameter.
4. Subtract valve guide ID (3) from (2).
5. Ream guide to dimension in line 4.
The reaming is done in small steps, removing small amounts with subsequent
passes. Use adequate lubricant as the reamer makes each pass. Automotive
machine shops use reamers that are guided by a plug that is placed in the
valve seat. The plugs keep the reamer end centered.
This job is probably NOT recommended for any "monkey lad mode" excursions.
The reamer is expensive, the inside and outside micrometers are as well.
The machine shop cost would be minimal and the results gauranteed. Oversized
guides lead to excessive oil consumption and other problems. My advice
would be to leave it to someone with experience. Deffinately NOT a run it
through with a drill bit deal!! IMHO
