Yep, head gasket, that's probably what made your
heater core fail. It's a day project, and may be a
good time to do some valve seals and stuff like that.
I sold my old NG head for $50, so I would try and get
a spare, have it shaved ~$50 to make sure it's flat,
and stick it on your car if you want a cheep fast
changover. Most machine shops should only need you
head for 1 day tops to get it cleaned up if you can
wait that long.
