Cold Temp Switch?????

As my UrQ saga continues, I noticed a strange new
behavior yesterday morning.  It finally started
cooling off in Vegas and now my AC light (on the
switch) came on with the switch still off.  When the
car warmed up , it switched off.  I did wire the
switch to trigger the high speed fan relay (as well as
AC), and this has worked fine so far.  This morning it
did it again and I pulled the wires off the high speed
fan switch and the problem went away.  The high speed
fan switch in question is the one in the coolant
return line (to the overflow tank).  I replaced it,
because my high speed fan was not coming on when the
motor got to hot.  The switch I have in there seems to
close when cold, and open when hot.  This seems kind
of backward. What is going on here?  Any thoughts?
