alternator warning light still not solved...

Howdy folks,

I have been ignoring this list for a very long time. What can I say, I go
through phases of not wanting to spend time working on my car.

Anyway...awhile back I talked about my alternator warning light being dimly
lit at all times. I changed the brushes (which were quite warn out)and the
situation with the dash light didn't change. The battery is producing good
voltage all the time, or as good as an Audi alternator can achieve :). The
acid in the battery reads strong across all cells, in fact, I haven't had
any battery problems at all.

So this light baffles me. I do know that it came about around the same time
my auxiliary gauges stopped working (I pulled my stereo out one day, put it
back in, and noticed that the gauges stopped working....I guess I knocked
out a wire- somewhere- I just don't know where!). I am not sure if this is
just a coincidence, or if they are in fact related, because I cannot say for
sure when exactly the light warning light started coming on, but it seems
suspicious.

Is there something I sould check with the alternator? Or is it possible
there is a relation to a disconnected ground wire in my dashboard?

Any BTDT would be appreciated.
