www.boston-bmwcca.org is my favorite. They run about 8 or so events every
year, and while you need to be a member ($35), you don't need to own a BMW.
And the best part is, aside from the racing, that you get your very own copy
of the BMW club magazine, Roundel, and you get to read all the whining about
dealers and my car is better than your car posing crap that really does go
on. :)
The racing is good tho.
I also race with the Porsche club. A very good group, beautifully organized.
But you have to own a Porsche, or be an affiliate member of someone who
does.
I've been meaning to race with the local chapters of the SCCA, but haven't
gotten a chance...at least until yesterday. You get fewer runs with the
SCCA, but if you're good, you can go national and become famous. Or not.
There's a couple more events coming up in October. The NE region of the SCCA
is running at Devens on Sunday, I gather. Check out www.ner.org. And the BMW
club is running at the end of the month, but it may be oversold by now.
Cost is typically $20-$25 per day, and you can borrow a helmet for your
runs. This will start you down the slippery slope of suspension upgrades,
fancy helmets and driving shoes, brakes, engine mods, driver training
schools, autoX wheels/tires, trailers, divorce, etc.
But it *is* absolutely addictive. :)
I'm scheduled to go on the 28th...we'll see if SWMBO lets me. Drop me a note
next spring and we'll go racing when the season reopens...
