That "poor BMW" is only about $1600 cheaper than the S4.  And it
doesn't have nearly the level of standard equipment as the S4 does.  If
you were to buy enough options on the Bimmer to sort of match the S4, it
would cost much more than the S4.  Thus, since both the 330xi and the S4
are in the $40K +- a few grand price range, they are appropriate competitors,
and of course due to the fact they are both AWD.

This only underscores why the S4 is not only a superior car as a whole,
but a better value too compared to the 330xi.  Now with the Subie, if
all you want is speed then *it* is the best bang for the buck, you just have
to put up with the cheapness of materials, fit/finish, refinement and lack
of the premium features.  Afterall, it *is* is $25k car, not $40k.
