exploding Bose speakers

As I am deliberating the audio system in my V8 Quattro, I am curious about
the stories that I have heard about fires starting in the rear speakers that
have consumed cars.  Is there an archive link, or does anyone have any
information about this happening.

The is a car stereo repair place that can configure Alpine heads to work
with the Audi/Bose system, I have found.  The cost is around $250, which
isn't cheap, but it isn't outrageous either, as the cost to replace the
entire system is much higher than that, of course.

That guy recommends that I rebuild my Bose rear speaker/amplifiers, at a
cost of around $100 each.
