I recently posted a problem with the ignition switch on a 5kt. I received
many good responses as to how to deal with it. Thanks much, and you know who
you are.
Now I have pulled a spare (drilling the sheer pin to get the entire lock
mechanism) from a boneyard, and have drilled the small hole so as to enable
removing the cylinder. So far so good.
Now I can't see how to remove the lock (key) portion from the actuating rod.
The part didn't come with a key, so I need to re-key or swap tumblers. My
other Audi keys will fit into the slot, pushing the actuator rod forward, but
still no visible keepers or such. Anyone BTDT?
TIA
Dennis
PS When having your grandson (age 2 yrs.) help wash the cars (bonding time
and such), make sure they don't leave your sight for even an _instant_. They
just might take a rock and wash the other car in the garage just like you're
doing. Been a bad day!
