Clearcoat or not

Hi!

I also need to repaint mine in the coming months. I definitely want a
clearcoat as the paint is metallic/pearl.

Take a look at the trunk lid of my Audi 200:

It seems the PO had the tail painted (I think it was some accident
damage, which kind of sux!) and it was a single application type paint.
This is just from standing in the weather. The paint kind of
"evaporated". I checked closely and the white is actually the primer.
There used to be a large  "watermark" on the shiny paint and this seems
to be the only spot that survived the sun's attack on the trunk. There
are some odd markings down the rear quarter panels, just behind the
C-pillar.
