All Audis with factory power locks are the vacuum pump actuated
variety. There is nothing wrong with them. In my mind this system
quite reliable and easy to diagnose/fix. It's also cool to have
the lock pin move smoothly up and down instead of the clack of an
electric solenoid. If you want to retrofit the system into your Coupe
it's a simple matter of just getting the actuators for each door,
the vacuum pump, and a bunch of hoses, and wiring the pump up.
The driver's side actuator has an electrical connection for the bi-direction
pump. Look in the Bentley manual's wiring diagram about the simple wiring.
You'll also note that it couldn't be any easier on a Coupe, because
you have only two doors and the system doesn't deal with the trunk lid
at all. The doors should already have mounting holes for the actuators,
and the pump goes in the little space inside the trunk near the fuel
filler.
