After a massive failure of the oil cooler in my new(er) 5000tq which also resulted in a mishap that allowed me to blow my transmission (don't ask), I'm exploring the option of using a non audi type. I bought a small trans cooler from Pep Boys just in case I could use it to bypass the oem one. Can a trans cooler handle the pressure from the engine's oiling system? It's the tube type, four pass. Don't quote me, but I don't think the core tubes are the ones where the u bend is soldered to the straight sections. I mean they may be one piece. Either way, what's the story? As far as expense and reliability goes, this is my best option.

Luckily, I didn't blow the engine or damage it. The tranny's another story, however. Relating to that, Chris Semple at Force 5 auto in New Hampshire has been a great contact. Very helpful with my plight and has proven to be a reliable and honest dealer. Definately five stars.

TIA
Steve
