I haven't seen the previous posts, so I'm guessing you might be talking
about a car with the steering wheel in the middle? If so, on that vein,
I've been trying to find out what kind of car (I think it's French)
prewar that had the steering wheel in the middle. The first and only
place I've ever seen this car is in a French gangster movie from the
60's. There were three guys in the front seat, and the one in the middle
was doing the driving. Any Euro listers ever come across a car like
this? It was a full sized sedan, looked like a cross between an early
1920's Cadillac and a Twin Six Packard.
As for the ticket in the above situation, something similar happened to
me overseas. I was cruising at twice the speed limit when I was pulled
over, showed the officer my International Drivers License, State license
and passport. When he couldn't figure out how to ticket me he said he
would ticket the car (owner would be responsible), when the document
showed I was the owner, he woke up my friend who was sleeping in the
passenger seat while all this was going on (it had been a long night.)
He asked HIM for his license as he was going to ticket him! My friend
happened to have a Federal badge (worked for this countries security
service), when the officer saw that they started talking and reminiscing,
turns out my friend and the cops father had been in the same class at the
academy.
Probably would never happen in the US, but in many other countries they
ticket the vehicle, either the owner pays or the docs for the car are in
jeopardy. It's a very useful system in other countries that impose
points on your license for infractions, if you register the car in the
name of a foreign national, business entity, or relative without a
license, all you're out is the fine, with no points on your license.
