How can I tell if my 98 A6 Avant is a 30v or 12v????

No tiptronic. How do you explain why the VIN comes back as a 30V?
Damn, I paid a huge premium over a 96 A6 just so I could get the 30V.
Do I have a recourse against the dealer?

It's quite easy to tell by looking at it!! Do you have a picture of
it?? I
could tell you in a heartbeat (since I've had both).

It's been my understanding that in '98 the Avant was still a 12v (it
switched in '99). This is also backed up by the AudiWorld model guide.
http://www.audiworld.com/model/historical/98/a6.shtml (look at the
horsepower rating)

If you don't see a 5v symbol on the valve cover than you probably have a
12v. Another clue would be your tranny...if you have a 4-speed
automatic
then you have a 12v for sure!! If you have a tip than you probably have
a
30v. You have the 4-speed tranny right??

HTH!!

The vehicle was represented and sold as a 30v but there's no "5V" emblem
(or whatever you call it) on the side of the motor. However, when I
call up the VIN on Carfax it comes up as a 30V. How can I tell for
sure? Thanx.
